Jan Šebesta, presently employed as a Process Developer at Česká spořitelna, once remarked, 'The more you know, the more you realize you don't know. After a brief stint at university, Jan embarked on a 13-year journey through Italy and the United Kingdom. Despite his diverse experiences, his passion for coding drew him back to the Czech Republic, where he enrolled in the Coding Bootcamp Praha in the winter of 2023.
Combining life experience with a strong passion for coding, the Bootcamp became a crucial step for Jan. It helped him secure a job in the Wealth Management team, which focuses on long-term investment products. His primary responsibilities include managing servicing operations for George, specializing in frontend development in TypeScript and JavaScript, working on component development, and handling REST APIs, while occasionally delving into the backend (Kotlin). All of these aspects align perfectly with his current role and keep his thirst for learning alive.
How did your programming journey start?
It all started when I was accepted to the Technical University of Ostrava. However, as mentioned earlier, I ventured down a different life path. After nearly 13 years, I decided to return to my passion and joined Coding Bootcamp Praha.
What were your expectations from your first job before finishing the Bootcamp? What kind of company did you want to work for?
My primary goal was to secure a junior-level position to kickstart my career. My focus at that time was gaining valuable experience and progressively moving up the professional ladder.

How was your experience finding your current job?
I consider myself lucky as I landed a job even before completing the boot camp. I've been with the same company since then.
What was the biggest challenge when you started to work as a web developer?
I believe the most significant challenge was understanding the internal workings of the development process — how things operated, the team dynamics, and the overall workflow of the projects.
Is there anything that surprised you when working as a web developer? Did it meet your expectations?
What surprised me the most was the vastness of knowledge to explore and absorb. It reminded me of Socrates' insight: 'The more you know, the more you realize you don't know.'
Do you sometimes work remotely? Do you prefer this kind of flexibility?
Currently, I work in the office for 3 days/week and 2 days/week working from home and I love it.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years in terms of your career?
In the first five years, my primary goal is to absorb as much knowledge and experience as possible. Following that, I envision myself taking the entrepreneurial route and starting my own company.
